27 October 2025 – Jialeshuei Beach, Pingtung, Taiwan: The 2025 Pingtung Jialeshuei APSS Asia Tour Taiwan concluded yesterday afternoon after a full day’s worth of local division competition, followed by a hilarious SUP Team competition and the celebratory awarding presentation.
The event ran from 22-26 October and saw a total of 285 competitors from countries including Japan, China, Australia, Brazil, South Korea, South Africa, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, the USA, the Philippines, the UK, France and of course Taiwan participating.
Although challenged occasionally by strong winds at the event site, the waves were largely unaffected and provided great opportunities for scoring in each discipline, from the APSS Short and Longboard divisions to the Body Board, SUP, and Master’s divisions, as evidenced by the ability of the competitors to perform a variety of impressive maneuvers and post high scores during the event.

Double winner Dhany Widianto (IDN), who took both APSS Men’s Shortboard and Longboard wins described the surfing conditions at Jaileshuei: “The waves are really good here, because even when it’s windy there are walls and sections to work with, so I could always find a good wave and post a high score. I had such a great time here, surfing and meeting new people. It was so much fun and I want to thank TORSA, the Pintung Government, the ASC, and all the sponsors that made this event so great. I’ll definitely come back next year!”

The awarding presentation included an introduction and short speeches by TORSA Chairman Chen-Fu Chu, whose team organized the event and is celebrating 20 years of success, Pingtung Government Director General Huang Kuo-Wei, who supported the event, and Tim Hain representing the ASC whose team provided technical and media support.
The competitors were then called up to receive their awards, which included cash and products from the many sponsors who contributed to the event, a total of 18 divisions received cash and prizes plus the Team SUP winning team. In addition to the awarding presentation, yesterday’s highlights worthy of note included the Master’s Division final, which was won by local legend Chen Tong-Ming, with world renown Robert “Wingnut” Weaver making a celebrity appearance and taking second place, showing his timeless style on the waves of Jialeshuei.

Next was the inflatable SUP team challenge, which provided literally hundreds of hilarious moments as the 7 teams prepared then paddled out these enormous inflatable crafts and attempted to catch waves all the way to the beach and collect the 10k NT prize money on offer. Team Naluwan was declared the winner, and celebrated their victory with their captain, Master’s champion Chen Tong-Ming.
The Pintung County Government has been an avid supporter of surfing in South Taiwan, as evidenced by their sponsorship of this event, which is the longest-running surfing competition even in this region. Their goal is to increase the visibility of the area for both surfers and tourists that seek to enjoy watersports like surfing, diving, and boating, as well as, biking, exploring, and enjoying the varied culinary and cultural wonders on offer in this beautiful area.
