Dongsha Beach, Zhoushan, China – 19 October 2025: Indonesia’s surfing brother-and-sister duo Dhany Widianto and Dhea Natasya claimed double victories at the Dongsha Open of Surfing 2025 yesterday, taking out both the Longboard and Shortboard divisions in challenging final-day conditions.
The pair, who also topped the podium at July’s Afulu Pro in Nias, Indonesia with double victories as well, retain their lead on the Asian ProAm Surf Series (APSS) rankings and will now head to Taiwan for the next tour stop, the Pingtung Jialeshuei APSS Taiwan, which runs from 22–26 October in southern Taiwan’s Kenting area.
The second and final day of competition began under sunny skies with glassy 1–2 foot surf as the Men’s Shortboard heats kicked off before pausing for the official opening ceremony, which featured breakdancing, live music, opening speeches, and then airhorns and fireworks. But by mid-afternoon, the weather took a turn—strong winds and rain swept through as a storm front approached. With forecasts threatening a beach closure on Sunday, organizers made the call to complete the event that same day.
Despite the worsening weather, competitors found scoring opportunities in the building surf. Both Dhany and Dhea adapted quickly to the shifting conditions, each taking early leads in their finals and holding firm through to the final horn.

Dhany credited their upbringing at Bali’s Kuta Beach for their success:
“Dhea and I grew up surfing at Kuta Beach, where the mornings are clean but the afternoons can get really windy too. We know how to surf in windy beach break conditions, so we just stayed focused on finding the good waves. We’re so happy to win both divisions!”
Dhea added:
“I’m so grateful to be here with my brother, and for us both to win is amazing. It’s our first time in China and everyone has been so welcoming. The local crew has really made us feel at home! Big thanks to City Surfer and to all the sponsors for making this possible—we can’t wait to come back next year!”
City Surfer’s Terry Chen, feels like his goals for the event were both accomplished and surpassed, despite having to make adjustments due to the weather conditions:
“We had some challenges along the way, but everyone worked together and we had a really successfully event! We really want the participants to feel like they’re on a surf trip, not just at a contest—surfing, hanging out, making friends, and enjoying a whole experience, not just competing during the day and everyone separating after. We all hung out surfing, eating, and going to parties and listening to music…everyone had a great time! ”

Asian Surf Cooperative (ASC)’s Tim Hain agreed, saying:
“This is the third time we’ve come to Dongsha, and it just keeps getting better. Zhoushan is such a unique surf destination and that there is a surf culture here surprises just about everyone. We’re stoked to be here again and share this experience with the world. We always have the best time here!”

Now in its third year, the Dongsha Open of Surfing welcomed 51 surfers from China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan, France, and Singapore, wrapping up with a lively awards night at Zhoushan Live, featuring live bands and a DJ.
The Dongsha Open of Surfing 2025 was proudly organized by City Surfer, with technical and competition management by the Asian Surf Cooperative (ASC).
The event was sponsored by LIPOVITAN, and supported by O’Neill, Fiber Space, De Bortoli, Montes, SANSHI COFFEE and Betel Nut Co. and Zhoushan Live.
Together, they created a vibrant festival atmosphere combining surfing, music, and local culture, showcasing Dongsha as one of China’s most exciting new coastal destinations.
