17 October 2025, Dongsha Beach, Zhoushan: Day One of the Donghsa Open of Surfing got underway today at Dongsha Beach under cloudy skies with the Men’s and Women’s Longboard Divisions running through a total of 10 heats in fun half to one meter high waves, ending the day with semifinalists decided in both divisions.
“Today as we expected, the conditions were small but very contestable for traditional longboarding, “ said ASC’s Technical Director Alex Hontoria. “We saw a really good level of skill from both the men and the women, beyond our expections, and with the waves forecast to be bigger tomorrow we plan to put the shortboard divisions in the water to start the day.”
The Shortboard Divisions have been notified that they need to be on standby at 8:00 am, ready for an 8: 30 am start. There will be a 30-45 minute break at 9:30, for everyone to attend the official opening ceremony that will be held on the beach.

Leading the highlights of the day was the single excellent wave score of 8.0 (out of a possible 10 points) earned by Indonesia’s Dhany Widianto in Heat 1 of Round 2 of the Men’s Longboard Division, whose smooth and graceful multiple Hang 5 to 10 maneuvers on his backhand earned him the highest single wave score as well as the highest total heat score of 15 points (out of a possible 20). Widianto will certainly be one to watch as the field has narrowed to 6 remaining competitors heading into the semifinals.
China’s Chen Junkai posted the next highest score of 7.17 for his long frontside Hang 10, while fellow countryman Hou Mingchia was right behind him with a 6.83.
In the Women’s Longboard Division, it was Widianto’s sister Dhea Natasya Novitasari who claimed the highest single wave score of 7.0 (out of a possible 10) and also the highest total heat score of 13.17 to advance into the semifinals.

Also earning a spot into the semifinals for her performance in Heat 1 was Jiang Jiaqui, whose high score of 5.0 put her in the lead and coupled with a 4.7 had her winning the heat with a total score of 9.17.
