23 August 2025, Kuta Beach, Bali – The Grom Patrol 2025 Grand Final, presented by AirAsia, was held on August 22–23 at Halfway Kuta Beach in Bali. The two-day competition featured over 100 young surfers from across Asia and Oceania, including national winners from India and Thailand, who competed for the title of Grom Patrol Champion. Favorable conditions with clean 2–3 foot waves allowed the athletes to showcase their abilities throughout the weekend.
The competition began on 22 of August 2025 under clear skies. A significant change to this year’s Bali Final was the elimination of the non-elimination round format, increasing the level of competition from the initial heats. The day featured contests across several age groups, starting with the Under 12 Boys Division and running through the Under 16 Boys.
In the Under 12 Boys Division, local surfer Jaya Suhendra secured his place in the next round with an 8.00-point ride. Later, in the Under 16 Boys division, Dharma Wisesa scored a 9.00 for a combination of two aerial maneuvers.
Joel Bartlett, Area General Manager of Mamaka by Ovolo, the event’s official accommodation partner, was present at the event and commented on the competition:
“Grom Patrol isn’t just a surf event; it’s a proving ground for the next generation of champions. To see over a hundred young athletes from across Asia and beyond charging Halfway with such skill and determination is truly inspiring. We’re proud to sponsor the event and to host international teams from Indonesia, India, Thailand, Australia, China, Korea, and more right here at Mamaka.”
On Day Two, competitors were met with larger swells, providing more challenging conditions. The day’s events began with the women’s heats. China’s Yaomei Wu performed well, scoring a 9.93 for a three-turn combination. “I feel so happy. Thanks Coach Mickey – I want to win,” Wu said after her heat.

A notable result from the Under 16 Quarterfinals was Oscar Glossop’s last-minute win over top seed Riki Umera. Glossop also competed in the Under 18 Boys division and advanced to the semifinals.

“I just went out there and tried to make the most of every wave I could catch,” Glossop stated. “I knew I had to stay patient and pick the right ones, and it really paid off in the end. It feels amazing to move on and keep competing!”
The highest score of the competition was awarded to Dylan Wilcoxen, who earned a perfect 10 for an air reverse maneuver. In the same heat, Grom Patrol India winner Kishore Kumar also advanced to the semifinals, demonstrating clear improvement in his performance.
Tipi Jabrik, founder of Grom Patrol, commented on the success of the event: “Waves were pumping, and the groms were doing lots of action. Thanks to all our partners and the Halfway Boardriders—we hope to grow this event bigger every year.”
The competition will conclude on Sunday, August 24th, with a full day of semifinal and final heats scheduled at Halfway Kuta Beach. The final day’s schedule will determine the champions for all age divisions of the Grom Patrol 2025 Grand Final. Furthermore, this year’s event will feature supplementary “push-in” divisions as Grom Patrol commitment to nurture new generation of surfer.
The proceedings will officially wrap up with the Awarding Ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM at the Kuta Social Club, located at the official partner hotel, Mamaka by Ovolo. Members of the public and media are invited to attend the final day of competition and the subsequent awards ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of the competitors.
